The UKDA National League has delivered some thrilling shifts across all divisions! Yorkshire narrowly held onto their Premier Division lead, while West Midlands surged into second. In the Championship, Leicestershire remains dominant, but Hampshire made a huge leap. Division One crowned new leaders in Salopian, and Division Two now has joint leaders in Somerset and Clwyd. Nottinghamshire tops Division Three, and Breconshire maintains a significant lead in Division Four, where the Isle of Wight celebrated a truly historic first-ever win!

Premier Division: Yorkshire Holds On, West Midlands Soars

Despite a tight 19-17 away victory against Warwickshire, Yorkshire successfully maintained their pole position in the Premier Division. They now boast an impressive fifty-five points from their initial two games.

The biggest mover this round was West Midlands, who soared into second place. Their convincing 23-13 win away at Suffolk propelled them to forty-five points, placing them ten points behind the leaders.

Meanwhile, Essex, having had a bye week, dropped to sixth position with twenty-two points. A surprising result saw Lancashire held to an 18-18 draw away to Dorset. This unexpected outcome leaves them in an unusual bottom-of-the-table spot. However, it’s important to note that both Lancashire (fifteen points) and Warwickshire (seventeen points) have only played one fixture so far, suggesting potential for significant movement in future rounds.

Championship Division: Leicestershire Dominates, Hampshire Rises Dramatically

Leicestershire continues to lead the Championship Division, securing fifty-one points from their first two matches. Their latest triumph was a 24-12 away win against Sussex.

This defeat caused Sussex to drop from second to sixth place, now on thirty-six points. Taking their spot in second is Hampshire, who made a remarkable jump from eighth position. Their colossal 29-7 home victory over Kent propelled them to forty-seven points, just four shy of Leicestershire.

Kent remains at the very bottom of the table after this, their first fixture of the season. London, who had a bye this round, fell from third to second-to-last, but holds a fifteen-point advantage over Kent. Both Kent and London have a game in hand compared to the teams above them.

Division One: Salopian Takes the Lead, Norfolk Slips

A change at the top here! After suffering a 20-16 defeat away to Cheshire, Norfolk lost their top spot and now sits in second.

The new leaders are Salopian, who secured a 23-13 away win against Oxfordshire in a rearranged fixture. This impressive performance puts them at the top of Division One with forty-nine points, nine points clear of Norfolk.

There’s a tight race for third and fourth place, with both Cambridgeshire and Cheshire also on forty points. Cambridgeshire contributed to this by winning their home tie against Northamptonshire 21-15. At the other end, Merseyside, who didn’t play this round, are at the bottom with fifteen points from their opening game.

Division Two: Somerset and Clwyd Share the Summit

Somerset maintains their strong start, remaining top of Division Two with fifty-one points after winning both their opening fixtures. Their latest success was a 22-14 away win against Berkshire.

However, they now share the top spot! Clwyd made a significant leap from fourth to second place following their dominant 26-10 home victory over Shropshire. Clwyd also has fifty-one points, matching Somerset.

Devon, who lost their home game to Black Country 22-14, dropped from second. Black Country holds onto third place with forty-eight points. Tyne and Wear (twenty-two points) and Staffordshire (十七 points) are at the bottom, but have only played one fixture each, indicating potential for upward movement.

Division Three: Nottinghamshire Dominates Early On

Only two rearranged fixtures were played in Division Three this round, but they had a big impact on the standings:

  • Cumbria secured a 21-15 home win against Buckinghamshire.
  • Nottinghamshire delivered a massive 28-8 home victory over West of England.

This significant win propelled Nottinghamshire to the top of the division with thirty-one points. Cumbria’s victory earned them second place with twenty-four points. Surrey, yet to play a game, is currently at the bottom, with West of England (eight points) and Buckinghamshire (fifteen points) just above them.

Division Four: Breconshire’s Commanding Lead & Isle of Wight’s Historic Win!

Breconshire continues its impressive run, adding a 21-15 home win over third-placed Wiltshire to their tally. They now hold a commanding lead at the top with fifty-five points – a massive fifteen points clear of their nearest rivals.

Those rivals are newcomers Herefordshire, who currently sit in second place despite a 20-16 away loss to Pembrokeshire. Wiltshire is tied with Herefordshire on forty-two points.

A truly remarkable highlight of this round comes from the Isle of Wight, who achieved their very first win in the six-season history of the UKDA National League! Their 21-15 home success against Montgomery and Radnor was a monumental moment. Previously, their best results were 18-18 draws in March 2023 and April 2024. This historic victory places them fourth in the division with thirty-seven points.
