Fifteen-year-old Scottish darts prodigy Mitchell Lawrie has clinched yet another major title, winning the prestigious Target Junior Series Grand Finals. In a captivating showdown, Lawrie defeated the equally talented Charlie Greensmith, securing the top prize and cementing his status as one of the most exciting young players in the sport. This series provides a vital platform for rising stars, and Lawrie’s dominant performance throughout the tournament, culminating in a hard-fought final, truly showcased the future of darts.

The Target Junior Darts Series: A Launchpad for Talent

The Target Junior Darts Series is an essential proving ground for the next generation of darts stars. Designed to give aspiring players a premier platform, the series features five elite events that build up to a high-stakes Grand Finals. This year, the ultimate prize for the champion was a significant £750, a substantial reward for young talent.

Mitchell Lawrie’s Dominant March to the Final

Known affectionately as ‘Wee Sox’, Mitchell Lawrie began his day at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre with an impressive display in the group stages. He won four of his five games, demonstrating exceptional form. A particular highlight was his 107.36 average in a swift 2-0 victory against Reece Holden. His only group stage defeat came against Zach Strong, but he comfortably secured his spot in the knockout phase.

Lawrie’s journey through the knockout rounds was marked by both clinical finishes and nail-biting battles:

  • Last 64: A hard-fought 3-2 win against Lee Bradshaw.
  • Last 32: A phenomenal 104.86 average to sweep aside Jude Clarke 3-0.
  • Last 16: A commanding whitewash victory over Lennon Wharf.
  • Quarter-finals: A tense 4-3 win, edging out Daniel Halliday.
  • Semi-finals: Another dramatic last-leg decider, where a 102.12 average secured a 5-4 victory against 14-year-old Jayden Walker, who himself averaged an impressive 102 in defeat. This match was a true showcase of emerging talent.

Charlie Greensmith’s Impressive Campaign

On the other side of the draw, Charlie Greensmith also navigated his group with remarkable consistency, winning four out of five matches. His path to the final was equally impressive, characterized by a series of dominant performances:

  • He dropped only one leg in total across victories against Adam Fulcher, Nathan Ward-Wilkinson, and Linkoln Starling.
  • In the quarter-finals, he delivered a strong 4-1 win against Japan’s Taiga Ajiki.
  • His semi-final clash saw him face Kyle Gilding, a player who had even competed in this year’s PDC UK Open. Despite Gilding’s experience, Greensmith proved too strong, securing his place in the final with a convincing 5-1 win and a near-88 average.

The Grand Final: A Battle of Young Titans

The highly anticipated final between Lawrie and Greensmith promised fireworks, and it delivered. Lawrie started incredibly strong, immediately taking a 2-0 lead with a pair of clinical 19-dart legs. However, Greensmith, showing immense resilience, fought his way back into the match, eventually leveling the score at 3-3, setting up a thrilling climax.

But that was as close as Greensmith would get to disrupting Lawrie’s momentum. Mitchell Lawrie then pulled ahead, demonstrating nerves of steel and exceptional finishing. He hit a crucial 119 finish to move just one leg away from the championship. With the title within grasp, Lawrie sealed his victory in style, delivering a rapid 13-dart leg to be crowned the Target Junior Series Champion.
