Searle’s Stunning Seven: Heavy Metal Darts Star Extends Unbroken Winning Streak

Darts sensation Ryan ‘Heavy Metal’ Searle has once again proven his dominance, clinching his seventh consecutive Players Championship title in a remarkable display of skill at Players Championship 7. Searle bulldozed through the competition, never conceding more than three legs in any match, culminating in a decisive victory over Scotland’s Alan Soutar. This win not only extends his incredible streak but also highlights his consistent top-tier performance on the PDC Pro Tour.

Searle’s Unstoppable March to Victory

Ryan Searle’s performance at Players Championship 7 was nothing short of spectacular. Known for his powerful throwing style, Searle registered a hat-trick of averages exceeding 100, demonstrating his exceptional scoring ability throughout the day. His journey to the final saw him overcome a series of tough opponents:

  • He began with dominant wins, averaging 101.5 against Thomas Lovely (6-2) and 102.19 in a 6-1 triumph over Darius Labanauskas.
  • Searle continued his strong form, defeating Jimmy van Schie 6-2 to reach the Last 16.
  • His standout match was arguably against five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld, whom he defeated 6-3 with his best average of the day: a sensational 104.5.
  • He then dispatched Charlie Manby 6-3 in the quarter-finals.
  • In the semi-finals, Searle ended fellow Scot Gary Anderson’s impressive run with a 7-3 victory, setting up the final showdown.

In the final against Alan Soutar, Searle started ferociously, quickly establishing a 3-0 lead with legs of 15, 14, and 13 darts. Although Soutar managed to win a couple of legs, Searle maintained control, securing another three-leg burst to bring him to the brink of victory. After Soutar snatched one final consolation leg, Searle sealed the title, finishing with a commanding 100.13 average in the final match.

Insights from the Champion

Despite his consistent success, Searle, a complex character at 38, revealed some surprising insights into his approach. “I played really solid today,” Searle commented, adding, “Averages wise my best was against Raymond [van Barneveld], and feeling wise it felt like the worst which was a little bit odd.”

He noted a pattern in his career: “February, March time is normally my time of year when I win things, if I can win one or two more to break new ground this year, I will do that.”

Searle also touched upon his motivation, admitting he often struggles to practice more than 10 minutes a day, finding it hard to push further as long as his “comfortable” approach continues to yield dividends. He has used his increased attention this year to raise awareness for the Cure ADOA Foundation, a cause close to his heart. Looking ahead, Searle has clear goals: “I would like to win a European Tour, that would be the next goal for me, to prove that I can win something on the big stage would be good.”

The Road Less Travelled: Soutar’s Impressive Journey

Alan Soutar’s quest for his second career Players Championship title was equally dramatic. “Soots” began with a stunning 105.03 average in a 6-2 win over Tavis Dudeney. His path was often fraught with tension, as he needed deciding legs in back-to-back matches against Jim Long and Derek Coulson.

Soutar defeated Alexander Merkx 6-3 before triumphing in an all-Scottish battle against Peter Wright with a dominant 6-1 victory in the quarter-finals. In the semi-finals, he faced Keane Barry, and despite taking an early 5-1 lead, Soutar once again needed a third last-leg decider of the day to secure his spot in the final.

Barry’s Blistering Performance & Other Notables

Keane Barry, at just 23 years old, delivered the highest average of the entire tournament in his opening round game against Krzysztof Ratajaski, beating the Pole 6-2 with an incredible 109.43 average. His impressive run continued as he defeated 2023 World Champion Michael Smith 6-4, and later overcame Sebastian Bialecki and Premier League star Stephen Bunting. Barry reached the semi-finals with another strong performance, a 6-3 victory over Jeffrey Sparidaans, featuring a 104.12 average.

Two-time World Champion Gary Anderson also made it to the semi-finals, overcoming James Hurrell and Players Championship 3 winner Chris Dobey, but ultimately fell short against the unstoppable Searle. Anderson continues his search for a first ranking title since March 2025.

Notably, only two Premier League players participated on Monday: Michael van Gerwen and Stephen Bunting. Both were eliminated in the Last 16 by Jeffrey Sparidaans and Keane Barry, respectively.
