German Darts Showdown: Berlin’s Vikings Reign, Chemnitz Triumphs, and Bundesliga Battles Ignite!

The German darts scene exploded with excitement in Bürstadt as the DDV Cups and 2nd Bundesliga promotion rounds delivered thrilling action. Vikings DC Berlin emphatically claimed the prestigious DDV Cup, while VfL Chemnitz secured the DDV Verbandspokal. Meanwhile, Disaster Darts and SV Falke Rosenthal battled their way into the 2nd Bundesliga North, with 1. DSC Völklingen and DSC Bandits earning their spots in the 2nd Bundesliga South after intense promotion battles, including dramatic tie-breaker games.

DDV Cup: Germany’s Elite Clash

The DDV Cup is traditionally the tournament with the highest caliber of players, drawing the best talent from across Germany. Each regional darts association is allowed to send one team, and even Bundesliga teams can participate, ensuring a fiercely competitive field. This year, 12 top teams gathered to vie for the coveted title.

The Road to the Final

The tournament kicked off with a demanding group phase, where only the group winners advanced to the semifinals. The tension was palpable in the semifinals, particularly in the clash between HSV Dart 1 and the Karlsruher SC. HSV Dart 1 took a commanding 5:3 lead after the singles matches. However, the reigning German champions, Karlsruher SC, refused to surrender, forcing the match into a decisive “Team-Game” – a special tie-breaker format where teams compete in a single, high-pressure game. In this thrilling decider, HSV Dart 1 held their nerve, securing their spot in the final.

In the other semifinal, Vikings DC Berlin, fielding their powerful Bundesliga squad, demonstrated their dominance. They comfortably defeated DSC Bandits with an impressive 8:4 victory, setting up a highly anticipated final against HSV Dart 1.

Vikings DC Berlin Dominates the Final

The final match between HSV Dart 1 and Vikings DC Berlin quickly turned into a one-sided affair. The Berlin side, showcasing exceptional form, swept the first block of singles matches with a stunning 4:0 lead. With star players like Marcel Hausotter and Benjamin Sensenschmidt leading the charge, the Vikings were unstoppable. Although Hamburg managed to reach the doubles matches, it was the formidable pairing of Oschitzki and Stöwesand who sealed the deal for Vikings DC Berlin, completing their triumph and securing the DDV Cup title.

DDV Verbandspokal: Chemnitz Claims Victory in a Thriller

Running concurrently, the DDV Verbandspokal also featured 12 teams and followed the same group-to-semifinal format. This competition proved to be equally enthralling, with several nail-biting finishes.

Semifinal Drama

The first semifinal saw VfL Chemnitz take on the iQ Darter from Hesse. The iQ Darter established a 5:3 lead after the singles, putting significant pressure on Chemnitz. However, VfL Chemnitz mounted a remarkable comeback, winning all three doubles matches to force yet another “Team-Game” tie-breaker. The team from Saxony, VfL Chemnitz, showed incredible composure, winning the Team-Game 2:0 and booking their place in the final. Meanwhile, DSV Nürnberg held onto their 5:3 lead against Arrows 1 in the other semifinal, ensuring their progression to the championship match.

Chemnitz’s Clutch Performance in the Final

The final between VfL Chemnitz and DSV Nürnberg began evenly, with the score tied at 2:2. However, Chemnitz then seized control, winning three consecutive singles matches to build a crucial 5:3 advantage heading into the doubles. While Franz Bausch & Vincent Schramm scored vital points for Chemnitz, and Höfling/Weierich kept Nürnberg’s hopes alive, it was the decisive 3:0 victory by the pairing of Nic Günther and Udo Thiel that secured the Verbandspokal title for their club, VfL Chemnitz.

2nd Bundesliga Promotion: Dreams Realized, Heartbreak Endured

The stakes were incredibly high in the 2nd Bundesliga promotion rounds, where teams battled fiercely for a coveted spot in Germany’s second-tier league.

North Division: Newcomers Emerge

Eight teams competed for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga North. SV Falke Rosenthal, bolstered by European Tour participant Paul Goyer, proved their mettle. They secured their promotion with a convincing 7:4 victory in the final match against Eintracht Hohn, having already established a strong 5:3 lead after the singles. Their performance was a testament to their consistent play.

For HSV Dart 1, however, the promotion round brought another chapter of heartbreak. The Hamburg team, led by Robert Allenstein, found themselves in a familiar, agonizing position. Despite holding a 5:3 lead after the singles against Berlin’s Disaster Darts, they managed to win only one of the doubles matches, pushing the contest into a “Team-Game.” In a tense finish, Disaster Darts, featuring Danny Teßmann, displayed superior composure under pressure, winning the tie-breaker and finally achieving promotion after multiple attempts. This was a particularly bitter pill for HSV Dart 1 to swallow.

South Division: Experienced Teams Return

Seven teams battled for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga South, with two clubs boasting top-flight experience making their return to the second division.

1. DSC Völklingen delivered a dominant performance in their final match, securing a clean 7:0 whitewash against Dart Club Gegen die Drück Sandhausen. With a strong lineup including Steven Noster, Jens Kniest, and Björn Quoiffy, Völklingen was undoubtedly the most commanding team of the day, leaving no doubt about their rightful return to Liga 2.

The second promotion spot went to DSC Bandits, who survived an absolute thriller against SV Motor Großenhain. The team from Rhineland-Palatinate initially took a significant 6:2 lead after the singles, with former Super League participant Frank Kortendieck even hitting a 100-average. However, the determined Saxon team fought back valiantly, winning three doubles matches to bring the score dangerously close. In a dramatic deciding moment, only Brosch/Voigt missed their chance to win the match against Kiesgen/Klughertz, which ultimately secured DSC Bandits’ promotion to Liga 2 in a heart-stopping finish.
