Gemma Hayter’s Darts Masterclass: A Weekend of Triumphs and Epic Comebacks

Gemma Hayter dominated the WADC Winmau Championship South weekend, securing three titles out of four events. Her stellar performance included a thrilling comeback victory against rival Fallon Sherrock and cemented her qualification for both the ADC Global Championship and the Winmau Championship Grand Finals, marking a spectacular end to her South season.

A Weekend of Intense Competition

The WADC Winmau Championship South concluded with a whirlwind two days of darts, featuring four high-stakes meetings. By the time the final dart was thrown, Darts World ambassador Gemma Hayter had emerged victorious, decisively closing out her South season with an impressive triple win.

Hayter’s Unstoppable Sunday Streak

Hayter truly shone on Sunday at Bradmoor Farm in Aylesbury, claiming both Event 11 and Event 12. This remarkable double victory brought her total for the weekend to three titles, following a shared spoils situation with Fallon Sherrock on Saturday. It was clear that Hayter was in peak form, ready to leave her mark.

Event 11: A Fifth Title Secured

Gemma Hayter’s path to the Event 11 final was paved with determination. She secured her spot with a convincing 5-2 semi-final win over “The Queen of the Palace,” Fallon Sherrock. While Sherrock had claimed Saturday’s Event 10 final in a nail-biting decider, this time Hayter was firmly in control. She then faced Rebecca Rose in the final, where she delivered another strong performance, winning 5-1 to clinch her fifth title of the season. For Rebecca Rose, reaching this final was also a significant achievement, bringing her much closer to a coveted spot in the Grand Finals at the MODUS Live Lounge.

Event 12: The Epic Comeback Against Sherrock

Hayter’s momentum continued into Event 12, where she reached her fourth consecutive final of the weekend. She powered through her semi-final, whitewashing Sue Lowther 5-0 with an impressive average of over 82. The final presented a highly anticipated rematch against Fallon Sherrock, and it proved to be the most thrilling encounter of the entire weekend.

Sherrock initially took a commanding 4-1 lead, needing just one more leg for the title. However, Hayter mounted an incredible comeback, winning the next four legs consecutively to snatch victory 5-4. She sealed this unforgettable triumph with a brilliant 13-darter, securing her sixth South title of the season and her third of the weekend.

A Rivalry Defined: Hayter vs. Sherrock

The weekend was largely defined by the intense rivalry between Hayter and Sherrock. They met in four of the six events, with Hayter ultimately holding a 3-1 record against Sherrock across these crucial encounters:

  • Event 9 Final
  • Event 10 Final (won by Sherrock)
  • Event 11 Semi-final (won by Hayter)
  • Event 12 Final (won by Hayter)

Championship Qualifications Secured

Heading into the weekend, Gemma Hayter and Deta Hedman were already leading the pack in the South division. Their consistent performances ensured they were head and shoulders above the rest. As a result, both players have officially booked their places in Portsmouth for the prestigious ADC Global Championship.

Furthermore, the top eight players in the South table qualified for the Winmau Championship Grand Finals, scheduled for the end of November. With Steph Clarke and Vicky Pruim having already secured their spots through the North section, Jo Locke and Rebecca Rose successfully earned their tickets to the exciting South Coast finale.
