The inaugural Darts Planet Super League of Almaty has wrapped up with a spectacular finale, crowning Anton Yakovlev as its first-ever champion. This three-month tournament not only showcased emerging talent but also highlighted Kazakhstan’s rapidly growing presence in the international darts community, with ambitions to join the World Darts Federation and welcome global online challenges. The future of darts in Kazakhstan looks incredibly bright!
A Champion Rises in Almaty
The first-ever Almaty Super League, proudly sponsored by Darts Planet TV, recently concluded, marking a significant milestone for darts in Kazakhstan. After three months of intense competition, Anton Yakovlev emerged victorious, securing the coveted winner’s title and a prize of 100,000 tenge (approximately $200 USD).
This groundbreaking event, inspired by the professional structure of the PDC Premier League (pre-2023 format), kicked off in October. Players managed their own match schedules, demonstrating dedication and passion for the sport across the following weeks.
Scores and results were meticulously tracked using the dartsbase.ru app, a dedicated platform for recording match statistics and standings, ensuring fair play and easy access to rankings throughout the league.
The climax of the league saw the top four players battle it out on finals night, held at a local shop known as Shtopor (meaning ‘corkscrew’). It was here that Anton Yakovlev delivered a stellar performance, winning a tight final match to claim his well-deserved victory and the spoils.
Kazakhstan’s Darts Scene Takes Flight
The partnership with Darts Planet TV has been instrumental in the remarkable growth of darts in Kazakhstan. Beyond the financial support, this collaboration has significantly raised the profile of the sport in the region, attracting both local enthusiasts and international attention.
This increased visibility has already led to exciting developments:
- International players are reaching out, eager to offer and accept challenges, fostering global connections and friendly rivalries.
- Kazakhstan is actively engaging with the World Darts Federation (WDF), working diligently towards becoming a full member and integrating into the global darts family. This step is crucial for establishing Kazakhstan’s place on the international darts map.
Local hero Yelzhan Maulenov is spearheading efforts to expand the player base, regularly organizing training days to recruit new talent. These sessions have seen incredible progress, with some newcomers achieving impressive averages of over 45 points per three darts on their very first day of play – a testament to the raw talent bubbling up in Kazakhstan, comparable to what seasoned players might achieve after years of practice!
