The Easter weekend in Munich has delivered high-stakes darts action, and the Netherlands is making its mark. With three Dutchmen advancing, the spotlight is firmly on the upcoming quarter-finals, especially the highly anticipated clash between compatriots Niels Zonneveld and Kevin Doets.

Zonneveld’s Nail-Biting Victory Over Premier League Star Josh Rock

Niels Zonneveld, a player in formidable form having reached two semi-finals in recent Euro Tours, arrived in Munich with his sights set on a final appearance. To achieve this, he first had to overcome Premier League talent Josh Rock in a gripping Last 16 encounter.

The match began tightly, with both players holding their darts for a 1-1 score. Zonneveld then unleashed a moment of brilliance, securing the first break of throw with a stunning 102 checkout in just 12 darts. However, Rock, known for his resilience, immediately broke back with an 18-darter and then held his own throw with a 108 finish to take a 3-2 lead.

What followed was a tense exchange of five consecutive legs, all going with the throw. Rock impressed with a 14-darter and a 66 finish, while Zonneveld responded with a solid 74 finish. With the score locked at 5-5, the match headed into a decisive final leg. It was here that Zonneveld truly demonstrated his class, hitting a crucial 180 and following it up with a clever 81 checkout to break Rock once more and snatch a memorable 6-5 victory.

Doets Triumphs in All-Dutch Battle Against Van Duijvenbode

Following Zonneveld’s success, the afternoon session guaranteed another Dutch presence in the quarter-finals as Dirk van Duijvenbode faced off against Kevin Doets. Both players had navigated tough Last 32 matches, with Van Duijvenbode overcoming Mike de Decker and Doets impressively beating James Wade after trailing 5-3.

The opening two legs saw both players hold their throws. In the third leg, Van Duijvenbode missed the bullseye for a 70 checkout on his own throw, allowing Doets to pounce and secure the first break via tops. Doets capitalized immediately, following up with an 11-darter to extend his lead to 3-1.

Van Duijvenbode, known as ‘The Titan’, refused to buckle. Despite Doets having chances for a second break after two maximum scores, he missed four crucial darts at a double, enabling Van Duijvenbode to hold. ‘The Titan’ then broke back with a 14-darter to level the score at 3-3, and subsequently took the lead with a fantastic 63 finish.

Doets, residing in Sweden, responded in spectacular fashion, levelling the match at 4-4 with a brilliant 128 checkout. The tension mounted as legs nine and ten also went with the darts, including another impressive 123 finish from Doets. This set the stage for a dramatic deciding eleventh leg.

Van Duijvenbode had the advantage of starting the final leg, but Doets began with a phenomenal 140 and his tenth 180 of the match.
