Milton Keynes witnessed a thrilling day on the PDC Challenge Tour, delivering both triumph and heartbreak. Germany’s Florian Preis captured his first ever Challenge Tour title, overcoming Aden Kirk in a nail-biting final. Earlier in the day, “Super Ted” Evetts secured his fourth Challenge Tour victory, also defeating Aden Kirk in a dramatic decider where Kirk squandered match darts. Kirk’s unfortunate double-final defeat was the day’s major storyline, underscoring the intense competition and significant shifts in the Challenge Tour rankings.

Evetts Extends Dominance with Fourth Title

The day kicked off with an impressive display from Ted Evetts, who clinched his fourth career Challenge Tour title. Known as “Super Ted,” Evetts navigated a challenging field to add another trophy to his collection. His journey to victory included:

  • A strong start with a 5-2 win against Nathan Potter.
  • Close encounters, including a 5-4 victory over Steve Haggerty and a 5-3 win against Robbie Martin.
  • Decisive wins against Jamai van den Herik (5-2) and Jake Jones (5-0).
  • Battling through deciders against Colin McCaughern (5-3) and Jack Aldridge (5-4).

In the final, Evetts faced Aden Kirk. Despite Kirk grabbing the opening leg, Evetts quickly responded by taking three consecutive legs. Kirk, a former World Championship opponent of Gabriel Clemens, fought back valiantly to force a deciding leg. However, the drama peaked when Kirk missed three crucial match darts, allowing Evetts to seize the opportunity and secure the title.

Florian Preis Claims Maiden Challenge Tour Crown

The afternoon session brought even more excitement, culminating in a historic moment for Germany’s Florian Preis, who lifted his first-ever Challenge Tour trophy. Preis demonstrated exceptional form throughout the tournament, showcasing his potential on the big stage.

Preis’s Path to Glory:

  • Started strong, winning a deciding leg against Jamie Kay.
  • Secured comfortable victories over Martijn Dragt and David Davies.
  • Defeated James Howard Hughes 5-3.
  • Showed incredible resilience by surviving match darts against Colin McCaughern.
  • Dominated the quarter-finals with a 5-1 win against ranking leader Joe Hunt.
  • Maintained his momentum with another 5-1 victory in the semi-finals against Lewis Pride, a player who narrowly missed out on a Tour Card.

The final was a tense affair against Aden Kirk, who was playing in his second final of the day. Both players started with 12-dart breaks, with Preis notably checking out 130 points. Preis extended his lead to 3-1 and then 4-2, including an 88-finish. Kirk, however, refused to yield, punishing Preis’s first missed match darts with a brilliant 100-finish, followed by an incredible 142 checkout to force a decider. In the ultimate test of nerves, “Captain Kirk” missed his chances to win, and the German sensation Florian Preis held his nerve in 21 darts to claim his memorable maiden title.

DACH Region Players Show Promise

Players from the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) also made their mark:

  • Switzerland’s Bruno Stöckli delivered the best performance in the afternoon tournament, reaching the quarter-finals after defeating notable players like Owen Roelofs and Daniel Perry, before eventually falling to Derek Coulson.
  • Patrick Tringler and Michael Unterbuchner both advanced to the Last 32.
  • Rowby-John Rodriguez and Moritz Richter secured prize money.
  • Lukas Dallmann also reached the Last 32 in the second tournament, a highly satisfactory result.
  • Unfortunately, Daniel Klose had an early exit in the preliminary round against Romeo Grbavac and did not secure prize money in either event.

Challenge Tour Rankings Update

The results had a significant impact on the Challenge Tour standings:

  • Joe Hunt maintains his lead at the top with £8,150.
  • Derek Coulson and Aden Kirk currently hold the provisional World Championship qualification spots.
  • Florian Preis’s victory propelled him to 8th place, putting him just ahead of Daniel Klose and firmly into contention for future opportunities.

The Challenge Tour action continues tomorrow in Leicester, promising more thrilling darts and intense competition.
