Luke Littler’s Phenomenal 2025/26 Season

It would be incredibly difficult to argue against Luke Littler being named the Professional Player of the Year for the 2025/26 season. His dominance over the past two years has been undeniable, both on and off the oche, but his performance last season was nothing short of extraordinary.

In a truly remarkable display of skill, the conversation quickly shifted to whether Littler could achieve the ultimate feat: winning every major title available to him. The UK Open and The World Matchplay were the most significant missing pieces in his collection of ranking majors. It didn’t take long for him to rectify that.

A Season of Triumphs and Near Perfection

  • UK Open Victory: Littler secured the coveted UK Open title, often dubbed the ‘FA Cup of Darts’, showcasing his resilience and adaptability across varied formats.
  • World Matchplay Conquest: He added the prestigious World Matchplay trophy to his cabinet, a testament to his consistent high-level performance under pressure.
  • Players Championship Finals Dominance: The Players Championship Finals also fell to ‘The Nuke’, demonstrating his mastery over the tour’s competitive circuit.

With these monumental wins, only the European Championships remained elusive from Littler’s trophy collection, highlighting just how close he came to a flawless year.

Challenges on the Path to Perfection

Despite his overwhelming success, the 2025/26 season wasn’t entirely perfect for the young sensation. Attempting to complete his set of major titles while simultaneously defending others proved to be a significant challenge, particularly in the Premier League, where he fell short of retaining his title.

The World Cup of Darts presented another hurdle. His partnership with Luke Humphries didn’t immediately click, and reports suggested Littler expressed dissatisfaction with the atmosphere at German crowds and events in general, impacting their team performance.

Littler’s Impact Beyond the Oche

Luke Littler’s influence extends far beyond the number of trophies he lifts. A recent change in his management, coupled with an increasing number of commercial ventures, indicates that the ‘Warrington Wonder’ is elevating the entire sport of darts. New and diverse commercial partners are being attracted to the game, demonstrating his immense appeal and marketability. His impact is truly revolutionizing darts, bringing it to a wider audience and fostering unprecedented growth.

Introducing the DartsWorld Awards 2025/26

In recognition of the incredible talent and dedication within the sport, we are proud to launch our inaugural DartsWorld Awards. These nine awards celebrate a wide spectrum of achievements from the 2025/26 season, which culminated in the crowning of a new World Champion in January.

Award Selection Process and Guidelines

Our awards aim to honor excellence across all levels of darts:

  • From professional prowess to amateur achievements.
  • From elite performance to significant charitable contributions.

For this first edition, the selection process was not an open, democratic vote. Instead, we directly consulted those deeply connected with DartsWorld. Players, writers, analysts, and business leaders contributed nominations, helped define award categories, and ultimately chose the winners.

We did establish a few key guidelines, which, much like a pirate’s code, are more a framework than strict rules. The most important rule, designed to prevent any perceived unfairness, is that no player will receive more than one award each year. This ensures a broader recognition of talent across the sport.

The Future of the DartsWorld Awards

We plan to evolve and enhance the DartsWorld Awards over time. Future editions will be announced earlier in the new year and may eventually become part of a dedicated event, occasion, or special publication. For now, we sincerely hope you enjoy discovering the first nine DartsWorld Award winners for the 2025/26 season!
