Expect unique gameplay twists called “Gamebreakers,” a dynamic team format, and all the action broadcast live for you to enjoy.

The Last Flight: Your Guide to Germany’s Innovative Darts League

“The Last Flight” is set to revolutionize how we view darts, moving beyond traditional tournaments to create a league that’s as entertaining as it is competitive. This pioneering league kicks off tonight, promising a fresh take on the sport with a format designed to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

The Unique Tournament Format Explained

Inspired by the popular Premier League Darts, “The Last Flight” unfolds over eight exciting match days, each featuring a complete mini-tournament. Here’s how it works:

  • Nine Teams Compete: Each week, all nine participating teams are involved.
  • The Play-In Match: Every match day begins with a special “Play-In” game. The community team from Underberg faces off against one of the other eight teams.
  • Advancing to the Quarter-Finals: The winner of the Play-In match earns a spot in the Quarter-Finals.
  • Knockout System: From the Quarter-Finals onwards, it’s a straight knockout format until a weekly winner is crowned.
  • Points for Victories: Just like in the Premier League, points are awarded for each win, accumulating over the eight match days.
  • The Grand Finale: The top four teams in the league standings after eight weeks will advance to the “Final-Four” event on June 2nd to determine the ultimate champion.

Understanding the Game Modes

The game modes in “The Last Flight” are designed to escalate in intensity as the league progresses:

  • Regular Match Days (Play-In to Semi-Finals): Matches are “Best of 3 Legs” (Bo3), played to 301 points, with a “Single-Out” finish required.
  • Regular Match Days (Final): The weekly final steps up to “Best of 3 Legs” (Bo3), 301 points, but requires a more challenging “Double-Out” finish.
  • Final-Four (Semi-Finals & 3rd Place Play-off): These crucial matches are extended to “Best of 5 Legs” (Bo5), played to 501 points, with a “Double-Out” finish.
  • The Grand Final: The ultimate showdown is a thrilling “Best of 9 Legs” (Bo9) contest, 501 points, with a “Double-Out” finish.

Meet the Teams and the “Gamebreakers”

Team Dynamics

While some of the nine teams consist of multiple players, there are specific rules for player participation:

  • Flexible Player Lineup: Teams have the freedom to use different players for each leg within a match.
  • Player Limit: However, a maximum of three different players are allowed to step up to the oche (the throwing line) per match.

Introducing the “Gamebreakers”

Adding an unpredictable and exciting twist, “Gamebreakers” are special rule modifications introduced during certain legs:

  • When They Appear: A Gamebreaker is used in the second leg of every match and, crucially, also in the fourth leg during the Final-Four event.
  • Random Selection: Before the leg begins, a Gamebreaker is randomly drawn and announced.
  • Instant Rule Change: Players must immediately adapt to the altered rules for that specific leg.
  • Examples of Gamebreakers:
    • “Sudden-Bull”: Hit the bullseye, and you instantly win the leg!
    • “Freeze Line”: All double and triple segments on the board become inactive and do not count for scoring in that leg.

The full list of participating teams has been previously announced. For the Underberg community team, the four players are Sandy Wolf, Anton Braun, Giovane Laurent Eisler, and kastroozr.

Schedule, Talent, and Where to Watch

When and Where to Catch the Action

The league kicks off tonight, April 7th, at 5:00 PM CEST. Matches will be held every Tuesday, culminating in the Final-Four on Tuesday, June 2nd. All the action takes place live in front of an audience at the Xperion in Berlin.

The Voices and Minds Behind the League

Bringing the excitement to life are the commentators and hosts: Adrian Geiler, Fabian “Roughy” Dippold, and Max Meintz from the podcast Tops Tops Tops. The crucial role of caller and tournament director is filled by Ioannis Selachoglou. Darts star Martin Schindler serves as the project’s patron, while former professional Max Hopp takes on the coaching duties for the Underberg community team.
