The second weekend of the PDC’s Youth Darts Tour saw two rising talents crowned champions in Milton Keynes. James Beeton staged a remarkable comeback to win Event Six, securing his first PDC title and a £3,000 prize. Not to be outdone, Leon Weber dominated Event Seven, claiming his second career Development Tour title with a decisive 5-2 victory. These wins highlight the incredible talent emerging in the world of darts.

James Beeton’s Epic Comeback in Event Six

In a thrilling display of resilience, James Beeton, who had previously reached a final earlier this year, finally secured his maiden PDC title in Winmau Development Tour Event Six. His path to victory was hard-fought, defeating a strong lineup of competitors including Bobby Vickors, Joshua Adriaanse, Dillon Moran, Barna Krekacs, Cody Crabtree, Jack Drayton, Jamai Van den Herik, and Archie Self.

The final against fellow countryman Nathan Potter was a true nail-biter. Potter quickly established a commanding 2-0 lead, putting significant pressure on Beeton. Beeton responded by halving the deficit in the third leg with a crucial 17-dart hold of throw. (A “hold of throw” means winning the leg when it’s your turn to start, giving you an advantage.)

However, Potter seemed unstoppable, winning two more consecutive legs to reach 4-1 ahead, just one leg away from victory. It was at this critical juncture that Beeton unleashed an astonishing comeback. He rattled off four successive legs, turning the tide completely. The tension culminated in the ninth and deciding leg, where Beeton held his nerve to seal the victory with a 21-darter, securing not only his first PDC title but also the substantial £3,000 top prize.

Leon Weber Dominates Event Seven

Following Beeton’s dramatic win, the focus shifted to Event Seven, where German talent Leon Weber showcased his formidable skills. Weber navigated his way through a tough field, overcoming Flynn Fitzgibbon, Charlie Box, Mason Whitlock, Connor Hopkins, JJ Wright, Ieuan Halsall, and Angelo Balsamo to reach the final.

The final pitted Weber against compatriot Dominik Gruellich. The match began with an unusual sequence of four straight breaks of throw. (A “break of throw” occurs when a player wins a leg that their opponent started, indicating strong scoring or finishing under pressure). This back-and-forth battle highlighted the competitive nature of both players.

Weber eventually found his rhythm, holding his throw for the first time in the fifth leg with a brilliant 12-darter. This pivotal moment shifted the momentum decisively in his favor. He then followed up with two more strong legs, finishing in 18 and 14 darts respectively, to secure a dominant 5-2 victory. This impressive performance marked Leon Weber’s second Development Tour title of his career, further solidifying his position as a rising star in youth darts.

The Future of Darts: What’s Next?

The Winmau Development Tour continues to be a crucial platform for young darting talent, offering invaluable experience and opportunities. These events are part of the larger PDC Youth Darts Tour season, designed to nurture the next generation of professional players. The excitement from Events Six and Seven sets the stage for even more thrilling action as the tour progresses, with players like Beeton and Weber demonstrating the high level of competition and skill on display.
