Pedro van Bergen has clinched his spot in the prestigious Zwaantje Masters 2026 by winning the fourth qualifying tournament. In a thrilling night of darts, Van Bergen navigated a strong field of 38 competitors, demonstrating exceptional skill and nerve to secure his coveted entry into the main event this August. This victory marks a significant milestone on his journey to the Masters.
The Road to Zwaantje Masters: A Fierce Qualifier
Last Thursday evening, a total of 38 players gathered for the fourth qualifying tournament for the Zwaantje Masters, all vying for a coveted ticket to the main event. The tournament began with players split into ten groups:
- Eight groups of four players
- Two groups of three players
The top two players from each group advanced to the highly competitive Winner’s Round, while the remaining players entered the Loser’s Round, where qualification for the main tournament was no longer possible.
The group stage saw a few unexpected outcomes. Notably, Maikel van Baast, winner of the second ranking event, and Dennis Zwaga both failed to reach the Winner’s Round, highlighting the intense competition from the outset.
High Stakes and Exceptional Play in the Winner’s Round
The level of play in the Winner’s Round was exceptionally high, with several players consistently achieving averages above 75. Tonnie van Binsbergen stood out, recording an impressive average of 90.18 during a dominant 3-0 victory over Dennis van der Steen in the last 32.
Van Binsbergen’s strong run eventually ended in the quarter-finals, where he lost a hard-fought match to Pedro van Bergen. Van Bergen continued his impressive form, convincingly defeating Robby van Eijndhoven 5-1 in the semi-finals.
On the other side of the bracket, Michael van de Ven also battled his way to the final, having previously overcome Willem van de Ven (3-2), Sander van Bergen (4-2), and Mike Jansen (5-3).
The Grand Finale: Pedro van Bergen Claims Victory
The final pitted Pedro van Bergen against Michael van de Ven in a thrilling showdown. Van Bergen started brilliantly, securing the first two legs with clinical finishes of 80 and 96. However, Van de Ven capitalised on some missed doubles from Van Bergen, levelling the match at 2-2 after four legs.
Undeterred, Van Bergen regained his momentum, pulling ahead to a 4-2 lead with decisive 17- and 18-dart legs. Van de Ven responded with a superb 15-darter to break back, but couldn’t hold his own leg in the next, allowing Van Bergen to reach match point at 5-3 with a 19-darter.
The player from Oss then sealed his victory with a cool and composed 18-darter in the following leg, securing a 6-3 win and his well-deserved spot in the Zwaantje Masters 2026!
Redemption in the Loser’s Round
In the Loser’s Round, Dennis Zwaga made an impressive comeback. After his earlier group stage disappointment, he went on a dominant run, losing no further legs throughout the competition. He comfortably defeated the Belgian player Neel Willems 3-0 in the semi-finals and then took revenge on Vic Vorselaars, who had beaten him 3-2 in the group stage, with a convincing 4-0 win in the final.
Upcoming Opportunities for Qualification
For those still hoping to qualify, there are two more crucial events:
- Next Ranking Event: Scheduled for Saturday, July 18, at 8:00 PM. This is the final ranking event and is exclusively open to players who have participated in at least three previous rankings.
- Fifth and Final Qualifier: On Saturday, July 25, players ranked from 12th to 27th will have one last attempt to secure their place in the main tournament through this ultimate qualifying event.
