Get ready for a darts revolution! The 2026 Grand Slam of Darts is set to be the biggest and most exciting yet, expanding to a massive 48 players for the first time. This new format introduces 16 groups of three, making every match critical as only the group winner progresses. Alongside this thrilling change, the prize fund has soared to an unprecedented £1 million, with the champion taking home a life-changing £200,000. Mark your calendars for November 14-22 in Wolverhampton – this is one tournament you won’t want to miss!

A New Era for the Grand Slam of Darts

The Grand Slam of Darts is undergoing its most significant transformation since its inception in 2007. For the 2026 edition, the tournament will welcome an unprecedented 48 players to Wolverhampton, a substantial increase from the traditional 32. This expansion promises more thrilling matches, new faces, and an even higher level of competition.

From 32 to a Staggering 48 Players

This marks the first format change in the tournament’s history regarding player numbers. The move from 32 to 48 participants is designed to elevate the event’s prestige and offer more opportunities for top darts talent to compete on one of the sport’s biggest stages.

The High-Stakes Group Stage Explained

With more players comes a completely revamped group stage. Instead of eight groups of four, the 2026 Grand Slam will feature 16 groups, each containing three players. The stakes couldn’t be higher:

  • Each player will face the other two members of their group once.
  • Crucially, only the winner of each group will advance to the knockout rounds (Last 16).
  • This new structure leaves very little room for error, making every single group match a must-win encounter.

To ensure fairness and competitive balance, the seeding system has also been updated:

  • The 16 highest-ranked players among the qualifiers will be seeded, with one placed in each group.
  • The remaining 32 players are then divided into two pots: those ranked 17th to 32nd, and those ranked 33rd to 48th.
  • Each group will then be completed with one player from each of these two pots, ensuring a balanced draw across all 16 groups.

Prize Money Skyrockets: A Million-Pound Tournament!

Beyond the expanded field, players will be competing for a significantly larger financial reward. The overall prize fund for the 2026 Grand Slam of Darts has been boosted to an incredible £1 million – a massive increase from £650,000 in previous years. The ultimate champion will walk away with a life-changing £200,000, reinforcing the tournament’s status as a premier event on the darts calendar.

Who Qualifies? Your Path to Wolverhampton

Gaining entry to this prestigious event is a multi-faceted process, combining success in major PDC events with qualification tournaments. Key qualification routes include:

  • Finalists from selected PDC televised events (e.g., World Championship, Premier League, World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, European Championship, Players Championship Finals, Masters, UK Open).
  • Remaining spots among the initial 40 qualifiers are filled by winners of European Tour and Players Championship events, prioritized by the number of titles won, then by PDC ranking.
  • At least eight additional players will secure their place through the highly competitive PDC Tour Card Holder Qualifier held on November 6th. More spots may become available through this qualifier if fewer than 40 players have pre-qualified through other routes.

Key Dates and Venue

The darting spectacle will unfold at the Aldersley Leisure Village in Wolverhampton. The action kicks off on Saturday, November 14th, and culminates with the grand final on Sunday, November 22nd, promising nine days of intense darting drama.
