Coulson, after two previous final heartbreaks, finally clinched his title with a dominant 5-0 performance. Later, Daniel Klose secured his maiden Challenge Tour victory in a hard-fought 5-3 final. These significant wins have reshaped the battle for coveted PDC Tour Cards and World Championship qualification spots, making the race for the top even more intense.

Coulson’s Dominant Breakthrough at Challenge Tour 6

The sixth Challenge Tour event of the season kicked off with over 300 players vying for glory, including 26 Dutch competitors. It was the 57-year-old Welshman, Derek Coulson, who finally broke his duck, securing a well-deserved victory after previously losing two finals.

Coulson showcased exceptional form throughout the day, defeating notable opponents such as Ben Robb (5-3), Harry Ward (5-3 with a 100 average), Adrian Gray (5-2), and Andy Hamilton (5-2). This impressive run saw him reach his third final in just six tournaments.

In the final match, Coulson faced young Englishman Oliver Mitchell. The final was a masterclass from Coulson, who gave Mitchell no chance, sealing a decisive 5-0 victory with crucial finishes of 76 and 130. Across his eight winning matches, ‘DC’ maintained an impressive tournament average of 93.88.

The best Dutch performer in Challenge Tour 6 was Gilbert van der Meijden, who reached the semi-finals. He was eventually defeated 5-3 by Oliver Mitchell. Earlier in the tournament, Van der Meijden had secured impressive wins against Jelle Klaasen (5-3), current ranking leader Joe Hunt (5-3), and Jenson Walker (5-3).

Klose Claims Maiden Title at Challenge Tour 7

Later the same day, Challenge Tour 7 commenced. Derek Coulson hoped for a double victory, but his run ended in the last 16, where he was defeated 5-3 by England’s Andy Courtney. Instead, it was Germany’s Daniel Klose who celebrated his first career Challenge Tour title after a long and demanding day of darts.

On his path to the final, the former PDC Tour Card holder overcame Reece Colley (5-3), Matthew Dennant (5-2), Andy Courtney (5-2), and Ben Townley (5-4) in a thrilling semi-final clash. The final saw Klose up against another former Tour Card holder, Welshman Callum Goffin, who had beaten teenager Archie Self 5-2 in his semi-final.

The final match was a captivating affair, with both players breaking each other’s throw in the opening legs. Goffin then held his throw in the third leg to take the lead. After Klose held his own throw, he delivered a crucial 80-finish in the fifth leg for the match’s third break. However, Klose couldn’t consolidate, as Goffin immediately broke back with a 14-darter. Klose then launched his final surge, securing the final with a 16- and 19-darter to win 5-3.

The top Dutch player in Challenge Tour 7 was Jamai van den Herik, who reached the quarter-finals. He impressively defeated Jack Aldridge 5-4 in the last 16 but then lost by the same scoreline to Archie Self in the quarter-finals, with Self producing an 11-darter in the deciding leg.
